Lahti Symphony Orchestra: The Snowman – Film music concert
RUUT KIISKI, conductor
Based on the story by Raymond Briggs, The Snowman is a tale of friendship, hope and the power of imagination. Little James wakes up in the middle of the night to find that the snowman he built in his garden has come to life. The pair quickly become friends and soon they start to fly together over the English moors, the Norwegian fjords and the North Pole, shining in the Northern Lights. The poignant story is accompanied by the haunting music of Howard Blake, especially the Snowman’s unforgettable theme tune Walking in the Air.
For more than 40 years, the animated version of The Snowman has started the Christmas celebrations on television. Now it will be experienced on the big screen of the Sibelius Hall, accompanied by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ruut Kiiski. Appealing to children and adults alike, this silent film is an experience that connects generations, one that will leave an indelible impression this Christmas.
The length of the concert is about 30 minutes, no intermission.
Symphonically together: Polttimo Oy
Organizer: Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
