Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem
17:30 o’clock: Introduction to the concert / Minna Lindgren
A. Mozart’s Requiem was written in obscure circumstances and in complete silence. No one was allowed to hear about it, so that the nobleman who commissioned the work could perform it as his own composition. Mozart had avoided the work for several months, and finally took up the task far too late. A sudden illness and death cut the composition work halfway through and turned the ominous visions into reality: the fateful Mass for the Soul became Mozart’s swan song in memory of the composer himself.
The Requiem, completed by Mozart’s friends, is a profound depiction of death and grace, a masterpiece that has spoken to listeners for centuries and a myth that seals the life story of the artistic genius in the annals of music. Lahti Symphony Orchestra, early music specialist Peter Whelan and a select group of Finnish singers will introduce you to the atmosphere of Easter time.
Organizer: Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
