YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan
YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan
The breathtakingly skilled Japanese drum group captivates with its power
Hundreds of years old Japanese Taiko drum music is a rare spectacle in Finland. YAMATO The Drummers of Japan, consisting of the world’s most famous Japanese drummers, will arrive in Finland for the first time in October. YAMATO, which has gathered more than eight million viewers in 54 countries, will perform The Wings of the Phoenix as part of its world tour at the Sibelius Hall in Lahti on Friday 25 October.
In total, over forty unique and traditional Taiko drums will be heard on stage, each of which has its own unique character. The biggest drum is called “Odaiko”, which is made of a huge old tree over 400 years old. The diameter of the drum is about two meters, and it weighs a whopping 500 kilograms.
YAMATO group members train ambitiously to be able to forge Taiko drums. However, skilled drummers don’t just beat the drums with explosive force, they make the drums ring with nuanced tones. All Taiko drums of different sizes emit individual sounds. The listener can enjoy the carefully honed soundscape and powerful music, which at times combines strength, sadness, comfort and even humor.
The impressive performance leaves its listeners speechless, and its acoustic pressure exceeds all expectations.
Authentic Japanese drum music receives great applause year after year around the world. The experiential show will delight all lovers of Japanese music and culture.
The duration of the show is approx. 2 hours, including an intermission.
